Time for Kinky to get out of the race

Two new polls are out on the Texas Governor's race and with 5 weeks to go "none of the above" would win if those words were on the ballot. But unfortunately for Texas we are stuck with Governor Rick, Grandma Carole, Jokester Kinky and Chris (I like to run for office) Bell. The Dallas Morning News(DMN) poll says that two thirds of the voters want a new Governor but are split. Perry gets 38%, Strayhorn 18%, Bell 15% and Friedman 14%. There is an anti Perry vote of about 47% and the rest of the voters are undecided. What a mess.

If Kinky was not in this race, Bell or Strayhorn would be giving Perry a real bad time. Isn't it time for one or both of these "Independent" candidates to decide that for the good of the state they should drop out and endorse someone, probably Bell?

According to another poll (which is consistent with the one by the DMN) by the Texas Insurance Reform group (trial lawyers) Friedman has an unfavorable rating of 40%. And 36% of the voters have never heard of Bell. The problem is that folks have heard of Kinky and think he is a fool and no one is giving Chris money because they think he cannot win. The DMN poll shows that Bell is only getting 39% of the Democratic vote and only 37% of support from African Americans. That will change in the coming weeks and Bell support in the polls will climb. But for him to get close to Perry he needs to pick up a lot of Kinky's supporters or get them from Carole.

If I was giving Bell advice (and I am not but I have been a political consultant to Chris on his Congressional races) I would say make a deal with Kinky. Drop out, endorse me and I will make you the official jokester of Texas or appoint you to head of the Board of Regents at Texas A@M. Just get out of the race right now.

Or Carole could make a deal with Kinky or endorse Bell. Either way she is toast in the GOP circles in Texas but she could help the state she loves by dropping out and endorsing Bell and sending Rick back to East Texas.

It is very hard to see how anyone of the non incumbents can defeat Perry with then all in the race. So it is time to do the right
