Well the elections are tomorrow and who knows for sure what will happen. The GOP says that it is gaining ground and that "The ABC/ Washington Post poll showed a net 10-point gain for Republicans among independents from last month. Pew showed a similar gain among independents of 10 points since last month and a huge 17-point net gain among moderates".
The Republicans also say that the ABC poll showed " John Kerry's "stuck in Iraq" remark has attracted the attention of eighty-four percent of voters, and 19%--including 18% of independents--say it has raised serious doubts about voting for their local Democratic candidates" The Gossips says that is what we predicted. Kerry's joke will cost us some seats.
So, here are the Gossip's predictions: The Senate will be split 50 to 50. I think Ford will lose and Burns will win and we will have a tie in the U.S. Senate with the Veep casting the tie breaker. Thanks Senator Kerry.
In the House the Democrats will take control by about 28 seats. It would have been 35 or more if Kerry had not made his joke.
In Texas:
Governor Rick Perry wins the Governor's seat with 38% of the vote. Chris Bell comes in second with 31% and Carole Strayhorn third with 20%, Kinky with 9% and others 2%
U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison wins with 60%.
In the 22nd District Nick Lampson wins in a very close election which will go on to sometimes in December after everyone argues over the various variations of Shelley Sekula Gibbs name in the write in ballots. It is just too long and too complicated to write in a name on a voting machine.
Martha Wong loses to Ellen Cohen in the race for District 134. Vo and Heflin are in a close race and we wait for a recount. Kristi Thibaut wins the District 133 race and Scott Hochberg wins going away.
Mayor Bill White's bond issues all pass.
